Where Kids can be Kidz!
Handwriting is more than just holding a writing tool. It requires so many underlying skills. The ability to write encompasses cognitive perceptual skills which includes letter identification, letter perception, orientation to printed language, attention to task, ability to follow instructions, memory (visual, verbal, and motor) and motor sequencing skills. It requires adequate postural stability, strength and coordination. Although, this program is not a substitute for therapy, it incorporates sensory-motor experiences to facilitate attention to task as well as body awareness, spatial awareness, motor sequencing and motor planning skills. This program also facilitates developing the core and upper body strengthening needed to help control little muscles of the body (i.e. hands). Sensory-motor activities are used to facilitate movement for improved motor control and used to calm little bodies and mind for focused attention.
This Sensory-Motor Handwriting Program takes place over the course of 6 week intervals in three different developmental age groups. Children are taught at a gradual pace in effort to allow them the support they may need to develop the foundation for handwriting!
